love is merely a madness

prettyflyforatransguy replied to your post: Holy shit UNCC tumblrs,

What’s been going on??

I’ve been tracking the UNCC tag for a while because I genuinely have enjoyed meeting people who attend UNCC and have really good blogs through it.  Lately, there have been people abusing the tag, i.e., making posts in which the only relevancy is the fact that they happen to attend UNCC.  There are a few examples now if you want to check.  So I made a post, a general post referring to everyone, that just happened to be inspired by one particular person who was doing it the most, but I had been noticing it for a while with multiple people.  It was polite, straight to the point, and not directed at any one person.

Now, other people who follow the tag saw that post, agreed with me, and started attacking the girl who was the main offender of this abuse.  Hence the anonymous hate, directed at that girl.   This wasn’t the intention of my original post, but it was the consequence.  So now I feel like this whole big drama is going on, and I’m in the middle of it.

Today, a particular individual made an extremely racist post about Indian people, and I was truly offended.  Right under that post was the anonymous hate I referred to above, and right under that was another post that was not relevant to Charlotte.

So I made this last post.

To me, Charlotte is an amazing school full of amazing people.  I feel like incoming freshman or transfer students on tumblr who check out the uncc tag, as I did, thinking they would meet cool people, will see that all these people are insane and not want to come here.  I feel like the purpose of the UNCC tag is to let other current and future 49ers know about some of the cool things that go on in Charlotte.

I don’t have a problem with people posting a picture of themselves at the Library or in Crown or in Fretwell.  I have a problem with people posting a picture of themselves or saying something completely unrelated to Charlotte and then tagging it with UNCC.  I have a problem with people portraying Charlotte as a school of racists, party girls, and hateful people.

I made those posts with good intentions, but they ended up having the opposite effect than the effect I wanted to have, which was to help restore the UNCC tag as something that future and current students want to read in order to connect with each other.

Sorry this reply was so long, but I’m going to tag this with UNCC so I can apologize for all this pointless drama caused by my good intentions.

My life is an open book. All the answers are there for you to see, you just have to learn to read between the lines.

I am a 21 year old English major, just trying to find her way. I enjoy music, photography, getting tattoos, reading lots and lots of books, wearing dresses, anything Pokemon, Doctor Who, Feist, and The Avett Brothers. I attend UNC-Charlotte.

I live equally in Charlotte, NC and Charleston, SC; I can't make up my mind.

I like questions. Oh, and the name is Shauna
